About InformSynonym
InformSynonym explains the words behind your word choices. Each guide lists alternatives for a common word and tells you how they differ, so you can make an informed choice instead of picking one at random.
Why we started InformSynonym
InformSynonym was set up to answer a question most word lists skip: why choose this word over that one? Knowing that “slow” has dozens of synonyms is only half the job; you also need to know which one suits a report, which one sounds natural in conversation, and which one changes the meaning. Our guides cover everyday words as well as linking words like “but” and “however”, and for each one we explain the differences in meaning, tone and usage, so every choice you make is an informed one.

How we create content
Written and edited by people
Every article is reviewed and edited by our team before it is published. We may use software tools, including AI writing assistants, for research, drafting and proofreading; they never publish anything on their own.
Original work
Our synonym guides and explanations are written by our team; questions and words sent in by readers are credited to them.
Checked sources
Meanings, usage notes and grammar points are checked against standard dictionaries and usage guides before we publish.
Kept up to date
We review older articles regularly and update or remove those that no longer help readers.
